Sidama Buncho G1 - Ethiopia
A beautifully elegant Ethiopian coffee from the forested highlands of Sidama, where smallholder farmers hand-pick ripe cherries for careful washing at Buncho station. Delicate and refined in the cup, it brings notes of apricot, bergamot and honey, with a bright citrus lift, soft sweetness and a graceful tea-like finish.
The story...
Widely acknowledged as the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia produces some of the world’s most exceptional coffees. Among its most celebrated regions, Sidama stands out for its distinctive and complex flavour profiles, shaped by high altitudes, ample rainfall, ideal temperatures, and fertile soils.
Sidama’s thickly forested highlands are rich with life and agriculture. Here, farmers expertly cultivate ‘garden coffee’, selectively hand-picking ripe cherries and delivering them the same day to Buncho washing station, where they are carefully processed and prepared for export.
As a young boy, Asefa Dukamo travelled long distances to deliver coffee cherries grown on his family’s land to the nearest washing station. This experience inspired him to build one for his own community. From that small beginning, the Dukamo family went on to establish numerous washing stations and mills, including Buncho, as well as founding Daye Bensa Coffee Exporters.
Beyond connecting farmers to the global coffee market, Daye Bensa has helped improve lives across the region through its Back to the Community projects. These have included building roads to link remote villages, installing electricity transformers, providing agricultural training, and supporting improvements to local health facilities.
