Kabatunda (Uganda)
This micro lot has been naturally processed, resulting in a fruity, full-bodied, complex cup
The story...
While Uganda is traditionally thought of as a producer of Robusta, it’s long been known that the lush and green mountain ranges in the east and west of the country are ideally suited to high-quality speciality coffee production. Investment in training and infrastructure in these regions over the last decade is now paying off with Uganda beginning to make a name for itself in the speciality coffee world.
The foothills of the Rwenzori, known as the ‘Mountains of the Moon’, provide the high altitude, fertile soil and bi-annual rainfall perfect for growing arabica coffee. Local tribes have farmed here for generations and with the help of Agri Evolve they have improved both their cultivation and processing techniques in recent years.
A ‘share farming’ approach is used in the region, where families help one another during harvesting then deliver the hand-picked cherries to Kabatunda and then the Agri Evolve washing station. Strict quality control only allows fully ripe cherries to pass into the state of the art wet mills, where the same level of care is used in processing. This micro lot has been naturally processed, resulting in a fruity, full-bodied, complex cup.
