The story...
Costa Rica’s history and culture are deeply intertwined with coffee. On the eve of the country’s independence from Spain in 1821, the government distributed free coffee seeds to encourage production and strengthen the economy - an initiative that helped establish coffee as one of Costa Rica’s key exports for centuries to come. Founded in 1890, Aquiares was among the first estates to export its coffee to the global market.
Over many years, Aquiares has developed an enduring model for growing high-quality Arabica coffee while protecting its remarkable natural setting and supporting a thriving local community. The estate sits between two rivers, high on the slopes of Turrialba, one of Costa Rica’s last active volcanoes. Here, fertile soils and abundant clean water create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation.
Aquiares manages the entire coffee production chain, from seedling production and cultivation through to harvesting and milling. This ensures rigorous quality control at every stage and guarantees full traceability. It also gives the Robelo family the freedom to experiment with innovative varietals and processing methods.
For this microlot, a team of skilled harvesters selected only the ripest cherries for natural processing, resulting in a vibrant cup bursting with summer fruit and tropical notes, balanced by a gentle malty sweetness.
